Why Testing Matters
CBD oils vary significantly in viscosity, terpene content, and formulation. What works perfectly in one hardware platform may fail completely in another. Common issues include:
- Slow wicking — Oil doesn't reach the coil fast enough, leading to dry hits
- Clogging — Thick oils block airflow channels after a few uses
- Leaking — Thin oils seep through seals or airflow holes

The 5-Step Testing Process
Request 20–50 empty CBD vape samples from your supplier. Choose the same specifications you plan to use in production — coil resistance, materials, airflow design, and power.
What to ask your supplier:
- Can you provide samples from the exact production batch?
- Do you offer different coil resistance options for testing purposes?
- Can you adjust the parameters based on our test results?
Before filling, inspect every sample:
- No visible defects (cracks, burrs, misalignment)
- Coil resistance matches specification (use a multimeter)
- Airflow is clear and consistent
- The mouthpiece fits perfectly onto the body, creating an airtight seal
- No debris or manufacturing residue inside
Fill 5–10 samples with your CBD oil. Observe carefully.
- Fill speed: Does oil flow easily into the tank? Air bubbles trapped?
- Wicking time: How long until the coil is fully saturated? (Recommended: let sit 10–15 minutes before first use)
- Initial puffs: Take 3–5 puffs. Any dry hits? Burnt taste?
Test the filled samples over several days:
- Puff count: How many puffs per fill? Compare across samples.
- Vapor consistency: Does performance degrade after 50, 100, or 200 puffs?
- Flavor preservation: Does the terpene profile hold up? Any off tastes?
- Clogging: After sitting overnight, does the first puff work normally?
- Leaking: Any oil seeping from airflow holes or mouthpiece?
- Battery life: How many puffs per charge (if testing reusable hardware)?
If initial testing passes, scale up to a small batch:
- Test 500–1,000 units — not 10,000
- Monitor real-world usage — give samples to trusted customers or internal testers
- Track issues — document any leaks, clogs, or performance complaints
- Compare across batches — run the same tests across multiple production batches to ensure consistency
We've found that distillate CBD oil works best with 1.3Ω coils at around 3.6V. Resin oil requires approximately 1.5Ω coils, around 3.4V, and a preheat function. Rosin has even higher requirements: a voltage around 2.5V, coils above 1.8 Ω, and well-matched wicking/oil-flow parameters.
What to Test For — By Oil Type
🫒 Distillate (Thin to Medium Viscosity)
Usually works well with most hardware. Focus on: leak testing (thin oils can seep), wicking speed, and flavor preservation.
🌿 Broad-Spectrum CBD (Medium Viscosity)
The most forgiving category. Focus on consistency across batches, vapor production, and battery life.
🍃 Full-Spectrum CBD (Medium to Thick)
Requires more attention. Focus on clogging, wicking speed at lower temperatures, and coil longevity.
💎 Live Resin / Live Rosin (Thick)
The most demanding category. A dual-coil + preheat function is strongly recommended. Focus on: wicking at room temperature, clogging after multiple sessions, and coil burnout resistance.
